Chainsaw Man Opening With Many Pop Culture References

Many have been looking forward to this day, the hype has been building up for a good while now
Since the Manga was released there has been hype behind this series
For the Anime of Chainsaw Man, they surprised everyone and made the opening with references to many Classic Movies

Pulp Fiction – 1994

This scene is Kishibe, the Public Safety Devil Hunter of the Tokyo Special Division 1
He is focused on holding his gun and it appears to be a reference to and tribute to Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre – 1974

This scene has a young Denji sitting on or next to a tombstone graveside with Pochita
This looks to be a tribute to the iconic horror film producer Tobe Hooper’s Great movie called The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, it seems to be a perfect fit for pop culture reference
Reservoir Dogs – 1992

The next scene reference watched all the main characters in Chainsaw Man crossing the street with Makima, as they sport their normal Public Safety suits
Reservoir Dogs, a 1992 film by Quentin Tarantino, is what inspired this
As you can see from the 2 sets of images there is a very similar feel to the movie
The Big Lebowski – 1998

As you compare Denji to Jesus Quintana’s Polishing the bowling ball in the same way he did the movie The Big Lebowski from 1998
You can see Power and Makima in the background with Aki bowling
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes – 1978

The next scene is from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, as you can see they are having a meeting
Kishibe is sitting down as Kobeni is spinning and crawling over the table
Then next you can see Arai and Aki both looking to sit down as well
Divine Comedy

Next, we take a look at the illustration from Divine Comedy, it acted as a reference for Denji in the opening of Chainsaw Man, as he grips and pulls his chainsaw pull starts to transform
Sadako vs Kayako

The next scene is a classic from the 2016 horror film Sakado vs Kayako
Chainsaw Man references this scene and has Denji vs Katana Devil
No Country for Old Men

The next reference has Glagali from Chainsaw Man, as the shoes and how they are sitting on the bed
is very similar to Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men, even in how the room is setup
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood inspired the next scene from Chainsaw Man
You can clearly see Aki and Denji in a car from a reference in the movie
Don’t Look Up

This next scene was inspired by the 1996 Japanese horror movie Don’t Look Up
It shows Denji feeling scared as Power is in the background making a scary face
Jacob’s Ladder

The next scene was inspired by the 1996 Jacob’s Ladder at the bottom of the staircase
You can clearly see the Angel Devil reference as the child sitting at the staircase
Constantine

In the movie Constantine, you can see Keanu Reaves and Rachel Weisz in a romantic scene
This movie clip inspired Aki and Himeno as you can reference back to the original movie
Thor: Love and Thunder

This next Chainsaw Man Pop Reference is very obvious from the fonts used
You can see Power in her bikini and the font with her name has the same feeling as Thor’s Love and Thunder
Fight Club

From the scene in Fight Club, you can see the large golden ball, You can reference Power hitting the same looking golden ball in the opening of Chainsaw Man
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s famous explosions

You can reference Power walking away from a huge explosion in Chainsaw Man, this is a reference to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s love for cool explosions, you will notice the 2 look very similar
